First ones to arrive

Ultimate training for the teams of the North - first group practice/hat for joint day Porto, Braga, Leiria and Aveiro teams including the grand masters team.

We were the first ones there, on time, it's Portugal- here, the time is always a bit behind the rest of the world. Being on time is almost considered impolite, the term \"fasionably late\" must have originated here, not in England! We had the whole beach to ourselves, inconveniencing perhaps only seagulls, because aside from a couple of local fishermen who didn't seem in the slightest interested in our unusual appearance on the beach of Leiria, a small city few know about north of Lisbon, there was no one around.

Inventing challenges

When there's time to wait and just a couple of people with a disc with nothing to do - we throw. Here the obstacle was a little creek flowing into the ocean, the disc landed on the other side of it, K went to fetch it and stayed over there with the seagulls, the back and forth over the stream was a great practice for pull throws.

    What a day

    As we were driving from Porto the fog was thick and promised to be somewhat of a less spectacular beach day than we had hoped. A two hour drive and a conversation between the driver C. and the front sit passenger (our new teammate for the semester - A.) while myself and the other player snoozed in the back. A quick stop for fuel and coffee, a long country road, with a \"Martian-like\" landscape leading up to the ocean, two random runners passing by, who know where they started and where they're running to, the fog easing up as we arrived at the beach simultaneously with the first glimpse of sunshine that day.

    Warm ups

    I learned a lot from our joint warmups, specifically two excercises stuck with me. One was when we all lined up hopped across the field \"as if we were jumping to catch the disc with one hand\", it was cool to have a muscle memory combined with intellectual purpose in this drill (I can't jump too high:) The second drill was when we would throw a disc in couples and depending on how accurate the throws were we would move closer of farther apart. My partner and I hovered around the same distance, seemingly unable to break our own record.
